The former Soul Bilíngue student, Mayara Avila, travels to Ireland this Saturday to fulfill her dream of doing an exchange program
Born and raised in Suzano, a city in the metropolitan area of São Paulo, former Soul Bilíngue student Mayara Avila is the next one going to the foreign exchange. Next Saturday (26), she departs for Dublin, Ireland, to fulfill her dream of studying abroad. Mayara was a student of the organization in the first semester of 2019 and earned the four-week scholarship granted by the partner Vital Intercâmbios.
From a humble family, the dream of going abroad has always been distant for Mayara. She was the second person in her family to graduate in higher education, but through Soul Bilíngue, she saw the opportunity to go on an exchange program as more possible.
"I've always wanted to do an exchange program, but I couldn't imagine how that would become possible before Soul. I come from a reality where studying is something few people can afford," explains Mayara.
Daughter of the seamstress, Maria Aparecida de Avila and the truck driver, Marco Antônio de Avila, Mayara has a degree in Nutrition from the University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC). For her, going to university was one of her biggest challenges.
"My parents couldn't help me, so I took a preparatory course and got a 100% ProUni scholarship at a private university".
In 2019, when she was in the Soul Bilíngue program, Mayara split her time to dedicate herself to English and her final papers at college. Besides learning a new language, Soul Bilíngue was essential for her personal development.
"Before Soul Bilíngue, I was very unconfident about myself and my interpersonal relationships. I discovered I could make my dreams come true with commitment and effort there," says Mayara.
The exchange program means broadening Mayara's horizons, both for herself and the surrounding people.
"Ireland is a country very rich in history. For me, it will be the perfect opportunity to explore. I want to go to the Cliffs of Moher, and the Library of Trinity College, because I'm a Harry Potter fan. And of course, to practice as much as possible English, I know the exchange program will provide me that experience."
